Say goodbye to the pesky blinking mute icon on your Samsung TV.

Dive into these simple fixes to enjoy your quiet moments without any flashy interruptions.

1. Lower the Volume to Zero

lower volume to zero

Even though I have a Samsung TV, I don’t always think of lowering the volume all the way to zero in order to not have a blaring mute symbol flashing annoying on my screen.

For this to happen, all you need is your Samsung TV remote.

Press the down volume button and lower it until you’ve reached zero.

Now the volume on your TV speakers is completely muted without ever having to hit the Mute button.

The most important thing is that we do not have a flashing mute icon.

2. Remove the Mute Flashing Icon in the Settings

Samsung is great because they allow you actually to remove the mute icon from flashing on your screen. Although, technically, we’re not really removing the mute button. We are actually telling our TV not to use its internal speakers and instead use external speakers that we’ve purchased.

This is a multi-step process, but it’s pretty easy. We’ve outlined them below.

Step 1

The first thing you will have to do is press the “Menu” button on your Samsung remote control. This will show you the main menu for your TV.

Step 2

Next, we’ll use our directional buttons. Depending on the Samsung TV you have you’ll either have arrow keys or a circular keypad like an old iPod used to have.

Navigate to “Sound” and press the enter button.

Step 3

Navigate to “Speaker Select” from within this menu and press enter.

Step 4

Inside the “Speaker Select” menu, you’ll find an option for “External Speaker.” Navigate to it and press enter.

Step 5

Now you can press the “EXIT” key to exit the menu and return to your TV’s home screen.

You’ve now successfully removed all volume from your Samsungs internal speakers without officially muting it. The best thing is that you do not have a flashing mute icon on your TV.

For The Samsung Frame

If you have a Samsung Frame, like me, the settings might be a little different from the above method. So let’s walk you through these settings, so there is no confusion.

Step 1

First, we’ll need our control. Pressing the “Home” button will allow you to see your apps and your Settings. Navigate to your settings using the navigation wheel on the control. It’s usually on the far left on the Samsung Frames. Press the center “Enter” button.

Step 2

When the Settings menu pops up, navigate to the Sound option. Once you’re over the Sound option, there’s no need to press “Enter.” The menu will auto-change according to the menu you navigate to.

Step 3

Once you’ve navigated to the Sound menu option, you’ll see a few options.

These options are for audio input and output. In other words, if you have external speakers plugged into your speaker or a wifi/Bluetooth-enabled speaker that you’ve previously connected, that item will be located within this menu.

Navigate to the proper speaker you wish to use and click on it to enable it.

You’ve now gotten rid of that flashing Mute button on your Samsung Frame TV.

3. Restart Your TV

restart TV

Some Samsung users have successfully removed the flashing Mute button on the screen by simply restarting the TV or performing a hard restart.

Let’s begin with a regular restart:

  • To restart your Samsung TV, you have to press the Power icon on your remote control. This will turn your TV off.
  • Next, press the Power button again after waiting a few seconds to turn it back on.

Once you’ve turned your TV back on, the Mute flashing icon should no longer be there.

To hard restart your TV, there are two different options.

The first option is:

Press the Power button on your remote control for about 10 seconds. This will turn the TV off.

Next, wait about 10 seconds, then press the Power button again.

As a side note, this hard restart is often tricky because you never know if all you are doing is turning it on and off again versus hard restarting it.

The second hard restart option is:

  • Unplug the TV from your wall.
  • Wait a minute or two.
  • Plug your TV back into the wall.
  • Using your remote control, power it back on using the Power button.

That should do the trick in removing the flashing mute icon.

Why Do Samsung TVs Have a Flashing Mute Icon?

If you’re trying to remove the Mute icon because you find it annoying, a simple explanation as to why this occurs is best.

To start, you cannot remove the Mute icon if you do not have external speakers connected to your TV.

However, Samsung created a flashing Mute icon for two reasons.

The first reason is to remind you that you have your TV set to mute.

The second reason is so it doesn’t burn into the TV.
