What To Know

  • Samsung TVs primarily use the VESA mounting interface standard, compatible with M4, M6, or M8 screws depending on the model’s size and weight.
  • To determine the correct replacement screw size for a Samsung TV wall mount kit, measure the distances between the mounting holes and consult the VESA standards to identify the appropriate screw type.
  • Samsung Frame TVs and certain QLED models may require other types of mounts, such as the No-Gap Wall Mount, each coming with specific screws provided with the mount.

In this article, I’ll guide you through understanding the Samsung TV mount screw size and the compatibility of various models with VESA mounts.

Let’s dive in to ensure your Samsung TV setup is both secure and stylish!

Which Wall Mounts Are Compatible With Samsung TVs?

1. VESA Mounts

VESA mount is put on the back of a smart Samsung TV

VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) is a group of electronics companies collaborating to set standards in the display electronics industry.

As a member, Samsung uses the VESA mounting interface standard for most TV models.

The VESA mounting interface refers to the four holes (on the back of a TV) that attach flat-screen TVs to wall mounts.

The spacing between these holes, both horizontally and vertically, determines the correct mount size for your TV, using a measurement system referred to as H x V.

The VESA standard includes a wide range of mount sizes, ensuring that TVs of all sizes can be safely and evenly mounted on the wall.

If you’re trying to figure out whether your Samsung TV is compatible with a VESA mount, the easiest way to do so is by measuring the distance between the four mounting holes on the back of your TV.

Once you have these measurements, you can compare them to the standard VESA sizes to find the perfect fit.

For more detailed information on how to do this, you can follow my detailed guide here

2. Non-VESA Mounts

Some Samsung TV models with unique designs use their own proprietary mount interface and brackets – for example, the Frame TV models. Frame TVs look like wall art and use a special wall mount that comes with the TV.

Which Screws Are Compatible With Samsung TVs?

1. VESA Mount Screws

Samsung TV’s VESA mount kits come with different screw types. Depending on the VESA specification of a mounting kit, it will come with either M4, M6, or M8 screws.

The main differences among these screws are their thread diameters and screw lengths.

the measurement of a screw

The thread diameter, marked by an “M” followed by a number, represents the thickness of the screw’s threads in millimeters.

For example, an M4 screw has a thread diameter of 4 millimeters.

The length of a screw is measured from the point to the top of the workpiece after the screw is installed, also in millimeters.

This means the size of a screw is indicated by two numbers: the thread diameter x the screw length, like M4 x 10mm, where the first number is the diameter and the second is the length.

It’s crucial to choose the correct length for the screws since a single type, such as the M4, can come in different lengths like 6, 8, and 10 mm.

This detail is especially important if you need to order replacement screws because you’ve lost the originals or the ones you have are damaged.

Knowing the exact size needed for your TV ensures a secure fit and prevents damage to your device.

Below is a table displaying various VESA sizes and their corresponding screw types for quick reference:

VESA Pattern (H x V) Screw Size Screen Size TV Weight
100 x 100 mm (4″ x 4″) M4 x 10 mm 19″ – 22″ ≤ 30.8 lbs / ≤ 14 kg
200 x 100 mm (8″ x 4″) M4 x 10 mm 23″ – 29″ ≤ 50 lbs / ≤ 23.7 kg
≥ 200 x 200 mm (8″ x 8″) M6 x 8 mm

M6 x 10 mm

30″ – 40″ ≤ 250 lbs / ≤ 113.6 kg
M8 x 15 mm 43″ – 88″

Note: When mounting your TV, it’s crucial to select screws of the correct length:

  • Using screws that are too short or too long could harm your TV.
  • The right screw length varies, depending on your wall mount bracket’s thickness, and the use of spacers, or washers.
  • No matter the TV size, the thread pitch, which is the space between threads, should be 1.25 millimeters

So, for example, after referring to the above instructions to determine the appropriate screw size for your TV, if you need an M8 screw, here’s my recommended replacement screw due to its highly positive customer feedback.

Mounting your Samsung TV is a great way to save space in your living room and improve your viewing experience. All you need are the right tools and a little “know-how.”

However, if you have never mounted a TV before, the process can be overwhelming. The different kinds of wall mounts have their unique mounting process.

Now, I’ll take you through the tools, processes, and safety precautions for mounting a Samsung TV.

Materials Needed

  • Level
  • Tape Measure
  • Screwdriver (Usually Philips head)
  • Stud Finder (For hollow walls)
  • Large enough area with a soft surface (i.e., cloth or mattress) to lay your TV flat
  • Pencil
  • Screw Anchor (Varies between wall materials)
  • Power Drill

1. Using The VESA Mount

The VESA mount is common amongst TV users, so it’s easy to find some help if you need any.

Ensure the plates are securely attached, but avoid over-tightening, as it may damage the TV.

Use a tape measure to determine the distance between the arm/plate and the bottom of the TV.

Connect the necessary connector cables (i.e., power, HDMI, and antenna).

Decide on the area where you want to attach the wall mount on the wall and use the height measured earlier as a guide.

Hold the wall bracket against the wall, using a level to keep it straight.

If you have hollow walls, use a stud finder to locate the studs and align the mounting holes with the studs.

Use a pencil to mark the wall through the mounting holes.

Remove the wall bracket and drill pilot holes on the wall using the pencil marks as a guide.

Use the correct type of drill bit for your wall material.

Insert the screw anchors into the drilled holes, and screw the wall mount into the anchors.

Place the TV on a soft surface facing downwards, and locate the screw holes for the No-Gap Wall Mount.

Align the holes of the mounting plate with those of the screw holes, and screw it down.

Ensure that the plate is firmly attached, but don’t over-tighten.

Pull out the mounting plate to extend it, and use a tape measure to determine the distance between the arm/plate and the bottom of the TV.

Connect the One Connect connector. Screw it in place, ensuring that you connect the end with the TV label.

Decide on the area where you want to attach the wall mount on the wall, using the height measured earlier as a guide.

If you’re working with hollow walls, use a stud finder to locate the studs and align the mounting holes with the studs.

Hold the wall bracket straight against the wall with a level.

Mark the wall with a pencil where there are mounting holes.

Remove the wall bracket and drill pilot holes on the wall using the pencil marks as a guide.

Using the appropriate type of drill bit for your wall material, insert the screw anchors into the drilled holes.

Screw the wall mount into the anchors.

Align the mounting plate with the wall bracket to hang the TV, letting go when it’s firmly attached.

Gently push the TV towards the wall.

3. Using The Frame TV Mount

The Frame TV is a high-quality television that can be mounted on the wall like a picture frame, blending seamlessly into any home décor. One of the critical features of the Frame TV is its unique wall mount.

Steps for mounting your Frame TV:

Locate the screw holes for the mount.

Align the provided stickers’ holes with the screw holes and ensure that the arrows on the stickers are facing inward.

Attach the stickers to the TV.

Align the mount’s plate with the screw holes and stickers.

Attach the mounting plate to the TV with the provided screws and washers, making sure it’s tightly fitted but without over-tightening.

Extend the mount’s plates and attach protective pads near the bottom of the TV’s backside.

Measure the length between the plate and the TV’s bottom with a tape measure.

Attach Template 1 to its designated location on Template 2 according to your TV’s size and get the templates.

Use the length you measured earlier to determine where (on the wall) you want to mount the TV.

Use a stud finder to locate the studs if you have a hollow wall.

Align the template against the wall, ensuring it is level. If applicable, align the mounting holes with the studs.

Drill at least four holes on each side, using the template’s mounting holes as a guide.

Remove the template and insert the screw anchors into the holes.

Screw the wall mount onto the screw anchors.

Lift the TV and line up the mount’s plate to the wall mount to hang it.

If the wall mount has locking screws, tighten them down.

Ensure that the TV is secure before letting go of it.

Gently push the TV against the wall.

NOTE: You can use a One Connect Box with your Frame TV. It is a receiver that allows you to connect media devices to the TV without the clutter of cables dangling down from behind the TV.

Make sure your TV is compatible before buying the One Connect Box, as it only works with certain Frame and QLED models.

Where to Mount Samsung TVs for the Best Viewing Experience

When setting up your Samsung TV for an unbeatable viewing experience, the key is all about where you place it.

This guide will walk you through the important steps to ensure your setup is both secure and provides maximum enjoyment.

Essentials for Ideal Placement

First off, the position of the TV is crucial.

You’ll want to make sure the screen is at eye level to avoid any neck discomfort, aiming for a viewing angle between 30 and 40 degrees

To figure out the best distance between you and the TV, just divide the size of the TV by 0.55, and you’ll get the optimal distance in inches.

Choosing the perfect spot for your TV involves a bit more than just eye level, though.

You need to make sure the wall you pick can hold the weight of the TV securely.

Also, keep it away from heat sources like fireplaces.

If you do decide to mount your TV above a fireplace, take extra steps to shield it from heat and be prepared for more frequent cleaning due to soot and ash.

Practical Mounting Advice

A couple of practical pieces of advice for when you’re mounting your TV include watching the temperature around the TV – keep it under 40 degrees Celsius, especially if it’s above a fireplace, to prevent damage

Managing your cables is also important for a tidy look.

Samsung’s One Connect box and cables rated for in-wall use are great for this, helping you keep everything neat and out of sight.

Lastly, a good rule of thumb for TV height is to have the center of the screen at your eye level when you’re sitting down, which usually means placing it about 42 inches off the floor.

By following these guidelines, you’ll ensure a comfortable and enjoyable viewing experience with your Samsung TV.
