Samsung TV Mounts and Screws 101

Samsung TV Mounts and Screws 101

Sharing is caring!

Samsung is a founding member of the VESA group, so it’s only natural to assume that its TVs are VESA-compliant. You’ll be right to think so, but the question is, “Are they all?”

While most Samsung flat-screen TVs use VESA mounts and screws, some new HDTV models (i.e., Frame TVs) have specialized requirements for screws and brackets.

Samsung’s curved back models require longer screws than the standard lengths that accompany VESA-compliant mount kits. Due to their curvature, the mount holes are farther from the wall than the mount bracket manufacturers make provision for.

Keep reading to find out what mounts and screws are compatible with your Samsung TV. If you also want to learn how to mount your Samsung TV properly, we’ve got you covered.

Which Wall Mounts are Compatible With Samsung TVs?

1. VESA Mounts

VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) is a group of electronics companies collaborating to set standards in the display electronics industry. As a member, Samsung uses the VESA mounting interface standard for most TV models.

The VESA mounting interface refers to the four holes (on the back of a TV) which attach flat-screen TVs to wall mounts. The horizontal and vertical distances between these holes determine a TV’s mount size.

The VESA standard covers a wide range of mount sizes to ensure even weight distribution when mounting TVs of any size. You can check if your Samsung TV is VESA compatible and find out the VESA size. A VESA-compatible TV will work with any VESA mount of the correct size.

2. Non-VESA Mounts

Some Samsung TV models with unique designs use their own proprietary mount interface and brackets—for example, the Frame TV models. Frame TVs look like wall art and use a special wall mount that comes with the TV.

Also, some Samsung QLED TVs (flat and curved) are compatible with Samsung’s No-Gap Wall Mount. This mount is sleek and easy to install, allowing users to mount their TVs flush against the wall.

Some No-Gap wall mounts offer additional features, such as tilting the TV for optimal viewing angles or adjusting the mount bracket to accommodate different TV sizes. The No-Gap wall mount varies for different Samsung TV models, so ensure you buy the right one for your model.

Which Screws are Compatible With Samsung TVs?

1. VESA Mount Screws

VESA mount kits come with different screw types. Depending on the VESA specification of a mounting kit, it will come with either M4, M6, or M8 screws. The difference between these screws is their diameter.

A single screw type may come in two or more lengths, so you must know your TV’s required screw length before ordering replacement screws online. For instance, the M4 screws come in 6, 8, and 10-mm sizes.

Below is a table showing different VESA sizes and their matching screw types:

Screen Size (inches) VESA Specification Standard Screw
19-22 75 x 75 M4
100 x 100
23-29 200 x 100 M4
30-40 200 x 200 M6
45-55 400 x 400 M8
57-65 600 x 400 M8
70-80 800 x 400 M8
80+ 1400 x 800 M8

NOTE:

  • Tightening screws that are too short or too long may damage your TV.
  • Try screwing the screw into the mounting hole with your hand to check the screw with the best length.
  • Before installing a wall mount, check your mount’s manual to see which type of screw is best for your wall type.

2. No-Gap Wall Mount Screws

This wall mount comes with its own screws. Ensure you only use the provided screws, as they vary between models.

3. Frame TV Mount Screws

Like the No-Gap Wall Mount, Frame TV mounts come with their screws and vary between models.

  • Connect the necessary connector cables (i.e., power, HDMI, and antenna).
  • Decide on the area where you want to attach the wall mount on the wall and use the height measured earlier as a guide.
  • Hold the wall bracket against the wall, using a level to keep it straight.
  • If you have hollow walls, use a stud finder to locate the studs and align the mounting holes with the studs.
  • Use a pencil to mark the wall through the mounting holes.

Where To Mount Samsung TVs

a modern TV on the wall in the living room

Samsung TVs come in various sizes and models, so mounting them right is crucial to get the best viewing experience.

Nonetheless, it can be a little challenging to find the best spot to mount your Samsung TV. There are several factors to consider, such as the size of the TV, sitting distance from the screen, and the viewing angle.

This section contains helpful tips for mounting your Samsung TV and improving your viewing experience.

Factors To Consider

1. Viewing Angle:

The ideal viewing angle is generally between 30 and 40 degrees, so your eyes should be level with the middle of the screen. Placing your TV too high or too low can cause neck strain and make it challenging to watch for extended periods.

2. Sitting Distance:

The distance should be appropriate for the screen size to avoid eye strain and discomfort. For instance, if your TV is 50 inches, the ideal viewing distance is around 6.5 to 8.5 feet.

3. Location:

A poorly positioned TV can create an awkward atmosphere, affecting the overall ambiance of the space. It can also result in eye strain and discomfort.

In contrast, a well-placed TV can enhance the aesthetics of the space and create a comfortable viewing experience.

Tips To Remember

Here’s a list to go through before mounting your TV.

  1. Mount the TV with the center of the screen at eye level.
  2. Don’t mount the TV on a slanted wall.
  3. Avoid mounting the TV near a heat source (fireplace, radiator, stove).
  4. Avoid mounting the TV where it is exposed to direct sunlight, as this may contribute to heat and glare.
  5. Don’t mount a TV in wet and humid places like the bathroom.
