How to Easily Program Universal Remotes for Your Sceptre TV (GE & Magnavox)
What to Know
- To program your GE universal remote for use with a Sceptre TV, you’ll need the IR code from the GE manual guide.
- If you happen to have a Sony TV in your house, you might find that the Sony remote is compatible with your Sceptre TV.
In this guide, I’ll take you step-by-step through the process of programming both GE and Magnavox universal remotes to work with your Sceptre TV.
To make it easy to follow, I’ve included demo images along the way.
So, without further ado, let’s dive in.

Step-by-Step to Pair GE-2 Universal Remote to Sceptre TV
The GE-2 universal remote is compatible with my Sceptre TV and allows for easy pairing and control.
However, one downside is the lack of directional buttons on my GE remote.
This means I have to type the exact channel number to change channels. My recommendation is to choose a universal remote with directional buttons for easier navigation.

Here’s how to pair the GE remote with your Sceptre TV:
Step 1: The GE-2 remote comes with a list of codes. Skim through to find the code for Sceptre TV.
Step 2: Press and hold the Setup button on the GE remote until the power button lights red.
Then release the Setup button, the LED red light should stay on (if not, re-do step 2).
Step 3: Hit the TV button.
Step 4: Enter the code for your Sceptre TV from the list. If the first code doesn’t work, try other codes until you find one that does. In my case, the code 4071 worked perfectly with my Sceptre TV.
My Experience with the Sony Remote on Sceptre TV
I’ve discovered that my Sony TV remote, specifically from the KD-43X75K model, works unexpectedly with my Sceptre TV, without needing any pairing or programming.
In contrast, when I tested remotes from other brands like Samsung, TCL, and LG, none of them could control the Sceptre TV as effectively as the Sony remote.
To my surprise, simply pressing the power-off button on the Sony remote controlled the Sceptre TV as well.
In further testing, I found that the Sony TV remote can fully control several key functions of the Sceptre TV.
Using the Sony remote, these main functions operate effectively:
- Switching sources
- Changing channels
- Adjusting the volume
- Turning the TV on and off
If you happen to have an extra Sony TV remote, it’s worth giving it a try with your Sceptre TV.
The great advantage here is that if the remote is compatible, you won’t need to spend money on a universal remote or a replacement Sceptre remote.
According to the specifications of the Magnavox remote, it is not supposed to work with Sceptre TVs.
However, I discovered a workaround by leveraging my Sony TV remote. As I previously mentioned, my Sony remote seamlessly controls the Sceptre TV without any need for pairing or programming.
What I did was program my Magnavox remote to control my Sony TV.
To my surprise, this allowed the Magnavox remote to also control the Sceptre TV, functioning just like the Sony remote.
Here is how I made the Magnavox remote work with my Sceptre TV:
Press and hold the Sony button on the remote. Release the button when the indicator light flashes three times.
Once the light stops flashing, this means you have successfully programmed the remote to work with your Sony TV. Now, you can use the Magnavox remote to control your Sceptre TV.
DirecTV Remote with Sceptre TV
Many users pair their Direct TV remote with a Sceptre TV, aiming to control the TV using the DirecTV remote. To do this, you’ll need the correct code.
However, be aware that different models of Sceptre TVs require different codes.
Many users have reported great success with the code 10000 when pairing their Direct TV remotes. You might want to try this code first before exploring others.
If it works for you, or if you find another effective code, feel free to share your experience in the comment section!
Below, I’ve compiled a list of codes for various Sceptre TV models that you can try:
10810, 10878, 11217, 11360, 11599, 11217, 0080, 0000.
