Extracting Sound from HDMI

Extracting Sound from HDMI

HDMI ports carry sound and video, making them the perfect choice for connecting your TV to speakers using an HDMI audio extractor.

Follow the steps below to connect your TV to speakers with an HDMI audio extractor.

Materials Needed

Step 1: Connect Your Input Source to your HDMI Audio Extractor

Find the HDMI port on your input device, which could be a streaming device (e.g. Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast), gaming console, or laptop.

Plug one end of the HDMI cable into your input device and the other end into the HDMI audio extractor’s HDMI input port.

Streaming devices that are plugged directly into HDMI ports can be plugged into the HDMI audio extractor without the need for an HDMI cable.

Step 2: Connect Your HDMI Audio Extractor to Your TV

Plug one end of your second HDMI cable into the HDMI audio extractor’s HDMI output port.

Find your TV’s HDMI port (usually on its back or side) and plug the other end of the HDMI cable into it.

Make sure all cables are secure.

Step 3: Connect Your External Speaker to the HDMI Audio Extractor

Check which ports your speaker has.

If your speaker has L/R RCA ports, which are two ports colored red and white, use an L/R RCA Cable .

If your speaker has a Toslink port, usually labeled “Optical”, use a Toslink Cable .

Plug the appropriate side of the correct cable into the external speaker and the other into the extractor’s audio port.

Step 4: Connect the HDMI Audio Extractor to Power

HDMI audio extractors need to be connected to a stable power source.

Plug one end of the provided power cable into the extractor’s DC IN port and the other into a wall outlet.

You’ll know it’s properly plugged into when the power indicator lights up.

Step 5: Change Your TV’s Input Source

Now, you must change your TV input source to the correct source.

Click Input or Source on your TV remote to change the input source to “HDMI”.

Play something to make sure the speakers are working, and you’re good to go!
