Samsung Smart TV: How to Download & Install Apps

Peacock on Older Samsung TVs

You can watch Peacock on older Samsung TVs using a streaming stick.

an Amazon Fire Stick and remote

Since Samsung TVs released in 2016 or before do not support the Peacock app, you will have to connect it to an external device to watch your favorite Peacock originals.

While you can connect your computer to your TV and watch content that way, we recommend using a streaming stick. These nifty gadgets feature built-in apps (like Peacock) and come with a remote, making them easy to navigate.

Many popular streaming sticks (e.g. Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Android TV boxes, etc.) support Peacock and it can be easily downloaded from their app stores.

To see what other devices support Peacock, check out What devices and platforms are supported by Peacock? on the official Peacock website.

Streaming devices connect to your TV via HDMI, so head to the back of your unit to see if it has an HDMI port. If it does, then you’re in luck!

If your TV does not have an HDMI port, you can use an adapter, which will allow you to plug the streaming stick’s HDMI connector into another one of your TV’s ports (e.g. composite, component, S-Video, SCART, etc).

To learn how to use adapters to plug your streaming stick into a non-HDMI-compatible TV, check out our article How Do I Connect My Roku to My TV Without HDMI?

Pro Tip: Don’t forget to check if your adapter needs to be powered and adjust the NTSC/PAL mode.

How to Uninstall Peacock on a Samsung TV?

Let’s learn how to remove the Peacock app from your Samsung TV.

If the Peacock app is glitching or going unused, you may want to remove it from your TV. This can be done through your TV’s Apps settings and will delete the app along with all of its data, including your login credentials.

Don’t worry. This will not delete your Peacock account and you can always reinstall the app later.

Step 1: Press the TV remote’s Home button.

Step 2: Navigate to the left side of the screen and click on the kebab menu, which looks like three horizontal lines.

Step 3: Go to Apps

Step 4: Go to the upper right part of the screen using the remote’s D-pad.

Step 5: Click on the gear icon to open the settings.

Step 6: Find and select the Peacock app.

Step 7: Click on Delete from the list of options.

How to Troubleshoot Peacock That is Not Working on a Samsung TV?

Follow our top troubleshooting tips to get your Peacock app working in no time!

Is your Peacock app frequently crashing or buffering? If so, there may be something wrong with the software.

Luckily, there are a few ways to resolve this issue.

Let’s learn how!

Restart the Peacock App

Have you ever had to restart an app on your phone because it randomly crashed or glitched? You can restart apps on your Samsung smart TV in a similar fashion.

Step 1: Head to your Samsung smart TV remote and press the Exit/Back/Return button (shown above).

Step 2: Once you’ve navigated back to the SmartHub, open the Peacock app again and see if it’s working correctly now.

Restart Your TV

Alternatively, there may be something wrong with your TV, causing the apps to malfunction. This is most likely to be the cause if you notice problems with other apps on your TV.

The best solution for this is to restart your TV using its remote.

Step 1: Press and hold your Samsung TV remote’s Power button.

Step 2: While keeping your finger on the button, wait for the TV’s screen to turn black and then restart.

Step 3: Release the Power button.

Reinstall the Peacock App

While uncommon, apps can be installed incorrectly, causing them to glitch. This usually happens if your TV has bugs in the code or if your internet connection is slow.

To fix this, you must reinstall the Peacock app.

Luckily, Samsung smart TVs have a Reinstall option, so you don’t have to manually uninstall and then install it again.

Step 1: Locate and press the Home button on your Samsung smart TV remote.

Step 2: Head to the left and click on the three horizontal lines, also known as the kebab menu.

Step 3: Navigate to Apps

Step 4: Use the remote’s arrow buttons to go to the top-right part of the screen.

Step 5: Find and select the gear icon

Step 6: Go to the Peacock app.

Step 7: Click on Reinstall. This process may take a few moments.

Check If the App Is Down

Peacock, like all apps, may experience outages. These outages may prevent users from accessing the app, clicking on content, and so on.

While annoying, they’re usually resolved in a few hours. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about this except be patient.

To find out if Peacock is experiencing outages, you can head to websites that track website and apps’ outages in real time.

We suggest visiting Down Detector as their information is the most up-to-date since it reflects user-reported outages.

Wrapping Things Up

Samsung smart TVs released in 2017 and after natively support the Peacock app, which can be found in their app stores.

If your TV was released before then, consider using a streaming device instead. While all streaming devices are HDMI-compatible, you can plug them into another port on your TV using a compatible adapter. Most notable streaming devices support the Peacock app but don’t hesitate to double-check all compatible devices on the official Peacock website

The Peacock app is prone to outages, so if none of our tried and true troubleshooting tips work, check its outage status on Down Detector
