You can add a separate cable for audio to your setup when using an HDMI to DVI adapter. In this case, therefore, the audio is sent via coaxial or optical cables. 

Identify the audio-out port on your media source device and plug in one end of your audio cable.

Connect the other end of the audio cable to the audio-in port on your display device. You should now be able to receive audio to compliment your video display.

This option allows you to use the internal speakers in your display device to give out sound.

2. Use external speakers

The audio will be released through the speakers, while the video content will be projected on your display device.

Do HDMI-to-DVI adapters reduce quality?

No. An HDMI to DVI adapter neither reduces the video nor the sound quality transmitted to your device. 

This is because both HDMI and DVI are digital transmitters and therefore don’t convert any signals. The quality that is put in the quality that will be put out. 

What is important to note, though, is that loss of quality may only come from poor quality cables or poor connections in your setup.
