Do HDMI Cords Come with New TVs?

Do HDMI Cords Come with New TVs?

Yes, but it depends on the unit or the brand.

What you can expect is for new TVs to have the chords they need to power up the device.

If your brand new TV didn’t come with an HDMI cable, chill. Most cords go for only a couple of dollars on Amazon .

Although, it would be cool if all TVs come with their HDMI cables. It saves time that you would have otherwise spent waiting for your order to arrive.

But what’s with all the hype with HDMI cables coming with brand new TVs?

Well, we’re here to talk about exactly that.

Be warned: After you read this article, you will probably want all your electronic devices to come with their HDMI cables!

“Why are people so gung-ho about HDMI cables?”

“Why does my TV need them?”

These may be the questions running through your head right now. But there’s a good reason why people hype these cables up:

The high-quality visuals!

If you get the right type of HDMI cable for your TV, you’ll be able to take advantage of its highest refresh rate.

Does your TV have a 144Hz refresh rate? With the right HDMI cable, you’ll be getting exactly that!

Hooking up a 360 Hz monitor? Guess what?! 360Hz is exactly what you’ll get!

Sounds awesome, right?!

Another obvious reason is streaming.

If you have a PS5, Roku, Xbox, Satellite connection, etc., you will need a durable HDMI cable to use them.

Piqued your interest there, didn’t we?

Now let’s talk about how you can connect your TV to your streaming devices!

How to Connect my Device to My TV using HDMI?

Re-plug HDMI cable into device

So you’ve finally got that new, bougie, 144Hz refresh rate TV.

Now, what devices can you connect it with other than your satellite and gaming consoles?

Well, you can connect it to your laptop, tablet, or even mobile device to stream from your favorite *legal* streaming sites.

You can also use this method to project funny childhood videos of your siblings whenever their friends or significant others are around.

Don’t be shy, we know you’re tempted…

Let’s get started:

There are two ways you can connect your device to your TV via HDMI. The first one is a lot more straightforward:

  • Take the HDMI cord that your phone comes with, and connect one end to your device, and the other to the back of your TV.

If you’re connecting your laptop, you can use any universal HDMI cords.

TVs nowadays have multiple HDMI ports at the back. If your TV has that feature, you can connect the other end of your HDMI cord to any of these ports.

  • Change the settings to your TV accordingly. This step will vary depending on the instructions found in your TV’s manual.

Here’s the second method: (for devices that need adaptors to connect to their TV)

For this method, you may need an HDTV adapter  (that is compatible with your device and TV) and an extra HDMI cable (any brand will do) if you don’t already have one.

  • Take the power cord that your device came with, connect one end to your device’s charging port, connect the other end to the adapter.
  • Take one end of your universal HDMI cord and connect it to the other end of your HDTV adapter , and plug in the other end to the ports at the back of your TV.
  • Follow your TV’s manual on how to calibrate your HDTV settings.

These are some of the highest-rated ones we found on Amazon.

Now, we have to say that some cords can be pricier than others, but that’s because you have to pay for quality to make the most of your HDMI cords.

Your cord can last you years if you take good care of it!

Conclusion:

So, do HDMI cords come with TVs? Yes, they do.

But you have to remember that it will depend on the brand and unit you plan to purchase.

If your TV didn’t come with a cord, don’t worry. There are tons of those on Amazon and good old Walmart!

Just make sure that you know which HDMI cord your TV supports.

FAQs:

Do I Need New HDMI Cables Every Time I Buy a New TV?

No, and this is why we encourage you to invest in the HDMI cords you do get so you can use them long-term.

How Much are HDMI Cords?

It depends on the type of HDMI cord you’re planning to get, and its length.

You also have to take into account the cord itself. Braided HDMI cords are more expensive than the “normal” rubber ones. This is because braided cords tend to be more durable than their cheaper counterparts.

Where Can I Buy HDMI cords?

High-quality HDMI cords are pretty easy to find. You can get cords up to 20ft or longer on Amazon, Walmart, and your local gadgets/electronics store.

Should I Get HDMI 1.4 or HDMI 2.0?

That depends on how high a resolution you want to get from your TV or monitor. Both HDMI 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 can deliver 4K videos, streaming, and high-resolution audio.

But HDMI 1.4 is only limited to 24fps when watching 4K videos, while HDMI 2.0 supports 2K videos up to 60fps.

If you’re looking for a “good” HDMI cable, and are not too particular with the resolution, then HDMI 1.4 is a great option. But if you’re a streamer, or love to watch high-speed action movies/ live sports, then HDMI 2.0 is something you should try out.

Why is My Device to TV Connection Not Working?

If you found that the files on your device are not showing up on your TV even though you followed the steps we provided above, there could be a few reasons:

  • Your TV or HDTV is not compatible with the videos and other media on your phone
  • You need to replace your HDMI cord
  • You’re using the wrong adapter
