8 Best Smart Projectors

Smart TVs have been on the market for quite some time now, giving you the ability to watch your favorite shows and movies without needing any external hardware.

Projectors were a bit late to the “smart” party, but have come on with some very strong software with operating systems like AndroidTV and proprietary systems such as webOS from LG to match the powerful hardware on the market.

Let’s take a look at what we believe are the best smart projectors on the market. We have scoured the internet and done all the research for you, all compiled in the following list of projector reviews.

Smart Projector Reviews

We have broken down these reviews into categories to help you decide which projector is right for you.

Each category has a winner, followed by a review of said projector. Feel free to read them all, there may be a projector on this list that fits your specific needs that you wouldn’t think of otherwise.

Kodak is known for their film and camera offerings, but for many years now they have been expanding into other markets such as printers, soundbars, and more.

That is good news for us, the consumers, as they just so happen to have made the foray into the portable projector market.

The Kodak Luma 350 is a tiny projector, making it ultra portable.

Want to use it at your next picnic, family reunion, or movie night? It will fit perfectly in any room or even outdoors, giving you a ton of flexibility no matter your situation.

The image quality out of this projector is not going to rival full size projectors, but it is still extremely watchable at sizes up to around 120-inches. If you push it past that point you will see a noticeable drop in quality, so be forewarned.

This projector comes with an Android operating system, giving you access to the Google Play Store and all the apps you could ever need. From Netflix to Hulu, Disney+ and more, this projector will have you covered.

What We Like

  • Small and portable, easy to move from place to place.
  • Price is extremely affordable.
  • Decent image quality for such a compact device.

What We Don’t Like

  • Only 350 lumens of brightness.

2. For Home – BenQ TK700STi

  • PRO PERFORMANCE: Compatible with major consoles (Sony PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X,...

BenQ makes some of the best gaming products in the world, so when looking at their products, there is a good chance that the gaming aspect is going to be great.

The TK700STi is a phenomenal projector for home use, because it excels at gaming as well as watching movies.

The 4K image you get out of this projector is as good as anything out there. It rivals projectors much more expensive when set to its highest quality mode, making the price of the unit (mid-high) much more bearable.

This unit comes with AndroidTV onboard, so it will allow you to play your movies and videos just as you would on an Android powered television.

You will have all your options at your fingertips, so no need to worry about being able to binge watch your favorite shows.

This unit really shines with its gaming mode. It is one of the few projectors on the market to give you low latency, high refresh rate gaming.

This unit can pump out up to 1080p at 240Hz! That is impressive for a monitor, and almost unheard of for a projector.

What We Like

  • Excellent 4K image quality.
  • Gaming mode gives a high refresh rate gaming experience.
  • Great for even very large screen sizes (over 120-inches).

What We Don’t Like

  • Need a lot of space to get a large screen size (120-inch screen = 8.5 ft)

3. For Outdoor Movies – Optoma UHL55

Optoma UHL55 4K LED Smart Projector with HDR, Bright 1500 lumens, Works with Alexa and Google Assistant, for Home Theaters and Outdoors, Auto Focus,...

  • Voice assistant compatible: Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility enable intuitive voice control...

Optoma is a leading manufacturer of projectors, so it makes sense that they would make what we consider the best smart projector for outdoor movies.

The UHL55 has everything you need to set up a movie night in your backyard. If you are looking for a projector for any outside events, you will not find one better than this.

The UHL55 has a 4K resolution that is sharp as a tack, even at very large screen sizes. This gives it the perfect base for an outdoor projector.

Any resolution less than 4K could cause pixelation or fuzziness, but you will not have that issue with this offering from Optoma.

The best part of this projector, and what makes it perfect for an outside event, is the inclusion of a high quality soundbar built-in to the unit itself.

Two 8 watt speakers provide crystal clear audio at high volume levels. This will let everyone hear the movie, no matter where they are sitting.

The one thing that does need to be addressed is the fan noise. If you are sitting close to the unit you are going to hear the fan, and while it isn’t super loud, it is audible. It can be a slight annoyance, but moving yourself away from the projector will remedy the problem.

What We Like

  • The 4K resolution is very sharp.
  • Built-in soundbar is loud and clear.
  • Fantastic looking colors that pop.

What We Don’t Like

  • Fan noise can be mildly annoying.

4. 4K Projector – Viewsonic X100-4K

ViewSonic Smart LED 4K Projector with Dual Harman Kardon Speakers 125% Rec 709 3D Ready Frame Interpolation Technology for Home Theater (X100-4K)

  • VIVID COLORS: 125% Rec. 709 color accuracy and HDR content support produces lifelike colors for a...

Viewsonic, a name any PC enthusiast or gamer will recognize, is really making a lot of noise in the home theater and projector market.

You can see just how good their products are and how far they have come by looking at the X100-4K. This projector has all the apps and the picture quality to be a great addition to your living room or home theater.

The first thing you are going to notice when you unbox this projector is just how good the unit looks.

While the body of most projectors looks the same as it has for decades, the smooth, flowing lines of the X100-4K make it feel much more modern. This is a nice touch by Viewsonic, and something that should be commended.

After you get done admiring the look of the unit, once you get it all hooked up, your jaw will hit the floor once again.

The 4K image this projector produces is bright and stunning. The sharpness is absolutely unbelievable, and will blow you away.

The one thing that you will have to tweak is the colors of the unit. They seem to be just a bit off right out of the box, and are most definitely oversaturated.

This can take some time to get just right, but once you do, the images that this projector produces are next level.

What We Like

  • Sleek design looks good in any room.
  • The 4K image is bright and clear.
  • LED bulbs have an insane lifespan.

What We Don’t Like

  • Color needs tweaking to be usable.

5. With Netflix – LG HU810PW

  • 97% dci-p3 with dual laser
  • 2700 ansi lumens brightness & 2,000,000:1 contrast

So you’re a Netflix junkie and are looking for a projector to scratch your binge-watching itch.

LG has just what you are after with their impressive HU810PW projector. It has all the high end features you expect from an LG projector, and yes, that includes being able to watch Netflix.

This projector has a unique feature that is sure to help you watch the newest episodes of your favorite shows, and that is the adaptive contrast.

No matter if you are watching your show in the middle of the day with the windows open or in the dead of night, this projector has the ability to adjust the contrast ratio to give you the perfect image for your room.

One of the ways this projector has the leg up on the competition is its ability to project very large images.

The HU810PW can project images up to 300-inches in size! That is absolutely massive, and will satisfy any home theater screen.

This projector is one of the best out there for pairing with a new gaming console. The image you will get from either an Xbox Series X or Playstation 5 will blow your mind.

While the projector has smart capabilities for your Netflix needs, combining it with one of these consoles takes it to the next level.

What We Like

  • Adaptive contrast gives you the perfect image no matter the ambient light.
  • Can project up to a 300-inch screen.
  • HDR works great with new gen consoles.

What We Don’t Like

  • DLP rainbow artifacts can be seen by those who are “sensitive” to it.

  • No Wires, No Limits: With Solar Portable 1080p projector’s built-in rechargeable battery, you can...

Anker has become a well known name in the electronics industry, and their line of portable projectors has been taking the world by storm.

The Nebula Solar Portable Projector is one of the best values on the market currently, so if you are looking to get into the smart projector game, this unit from Anker should be towards the top of your list.

While this projector only has a 1080p resolution, that is still plenty to give you a nice sharp image. While 4K is the ultimate resolution for quality, 1080p is more than enough for the average person to test the waters of home projection.

This projector comes with AndroidTV 9 built in, giving you a huge selection of apps such as YouTube, Netflix, and more.

Having a full fledged Android operating system gives you ultimate app compatibility, meaning you can switch between Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and more, seamlessly.

The brightness here is mediocre at best, which is going to result in some washed out and “weak” colors.

If this is your first projector, chances are you will not even notice this, but if you are coming from something like a high quality OLED TV, it could be a glaring weakness.

What We Like

  • Portable and easy to set up.
  • Affordable price compared to competition.
  • Fantastic customer service from Anker.

What We Don’t Like

  • Colors are a bit washed out.

7. Android Projector – Epson EF-100

Epson EF-100 Smart Streaming Laser Projector with Android TV - White
  • STUNNING PICTURE QUALITY – Imagine an incredibly bright and colorful projected image up to 150...
  • INCLUDED ANDROID TV – Built-in Android TV with a simple-to-use remote – including voice search...
  • INTEGRATED AUDIO SYSTEM – Internal high-quality bass-reflex speaker for an impressive audio...

There are a ton of Epson projectors on the market, but the integration of AndroidTV in the EF-100 makes it one of the best Android smart projectors out there.

While it does have some shortcomings, overall it is a wonderful package for a decent price.

The design of this projector is great, with a classy look that you will be proud to show off in your home cinema or living room. This also makes it a great projector for business, church, and other public facing uses.

The biggest downside of this projector is it is only 720p, which is extremely low for the current age.

However, it more than makes up for this shortcoming by providing you with awesome colors and contrast. As long as you temper your screen size expectations to 100-inches or lower, this projector will provide a great image.

The last major positive for the Epson EF-100 is the integrated speaker. If you don’t own a sound system or want to spend the extra for a soundbar, the speaker in this unit will be perfectly adequate until you can upgrade your system to something more powerful in the future.

What We Like

  • Great color quality.
  • Beautiful hardware design.
  • Decent sound from integrated speaker.

What We Don’t Like

  • Resolution is only 720p.

8. Short Throw Projector – Optoma CinemaX P2

Optoma CinemaX P2 Smart 4K UHD Laser Projector for Home Theater 3000 Lumens Superior Image with Laser & 6-Segment Color Wheel
  • 4K UHD + HDR10: Enjoy a high-quality, cinematic home theater experience with 4K Ultra HD, HDR10...
  • 6-SEGMENT COLOR WHEEL: Experience richer colors and enhanced brightness with the six-segment color...
  • BRIGHT, RELIABLE LASER: Laser technology delivers outstanding brightness up to 30,000 hours of light...

So you are looking for a high quality projector, but just don’t have enough room to put it eight feet from your screen.

Don’t fret! With the rise of short-throw projectors, we have found the best option for you, the Optoma CinemaX P2.

This projector can be placed extremely close to the wall, and still project a large image with impressive sharpness and clarity.

The technology Optoma has packed into the CinemaX P2 is impressive, as you get the full cinema experience with a projector that can sit right next to the wall.

You will be blown away by the 4K HDR image this projector puts out, rivaling projectors much more expensive and harder to find. If image quality is the most important thing to you, there is nothing else in this range that will give you a better result.

The app integration with Optoma’s software is one of the weak points of the projector.

You can overcome this by adding a Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV, etc. They are not required, but they will definitely enhance the capabilities of this projector.

What We Like

  • Stunning 4K image.
  • Awesome built-in speaker.
  • Short-throw distance for tight spaces.

What We Don’t Like

  • App integration is quite weak.

Buyer’s Guide

There are a few things to consider when looking to buy a smart projector for your home. While you will see a ton of information and specs on product pages for the projectors you are looking at, it can cause some brain fatigue trying to figure out what you need to prioritize.

We have selected what we believe are the three most important aspects of smart projectors, listed in no specific order.

Let’s dive in and see exactly what you should be looking for in your next projector purchase.

If you are looking to project an extremely large image (over 100-inches), we strongly suggest you prioritize a projector with 4K resolution.

If you are going to project an image less than 100-inches, stepping down to 1080p or even 720p will give an acceptable image quality.

If you plan on using your projector in different lighting scenarios, ensuring it has enough brightness is going to be a pivotal point.

If you plan on having any ambient light in the same room as the projector, going below 1,500 Lumens is not advisable. In a completely dark room you can go all the way down to 200 Lumens and still get an adequate video quality.

Operating System

Since we are talking about smart projectors here, the operating system is going to be a very important consideration.

A projector with native AndroidTV support is the best choice, as you will get full access to the Google Play Store to download all of your favorite apps. While there are other options, they are second tier in comparison.

There are a ton of smart projectors on the market these days, so picking the right one can be quite a chore.

However, after reading through the reviews above, you should have a much better idea of the product that is right for you.

There is not a single projector you could call the “best,” but there are many that have wonderful things going for them. Hopefully you have found something that has piqued your interest above, and are ready to make an informed buying decision.
